As part of Industry Week (21–22 November), our partner IMT Nord Europe hosted an original and educational workshop:
“Sniff Wars: AI for Analysing Air Pollutants.”
Objective
To raise awareness among middle school and high school students — as well as the general public — about air quality through a fun, hands‑on experience:
- A battle of scents pitting two teams against each other: the human nose vs. an electronic nose designed by the laboratory.
- Learning and recognising odorous molecules, followed by a competition to identify simple and mixed compounds.
Beyond the playful aspect, the workshop highlighted the complementarity between sensory perception and instrumental measurement, and showcased the role of electronic noses in health and environmental monitoring.
A direct link with the ALCOVE project
This initiative strongly echoes the objectives of ALCOVE, which aims to validate the effectiveness of an electronic nose for lung cancer detection in clinical settings.
