ALCOVE at the Heart of European Research on Innovative Sensors

At the beginning of July, Théo Forestier (IMT Nord Europe) represented the INTERREG ALCOVE project at #NANOTEXNOLOGY2026, one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to nanotechnologies, organic electronics, and nanomedicine, held in Thessaloniki, Greece.

As part of the event, Théo presented his PhD research through a poster entitled: “Polyaniline-based Gas Sensors for Ammonia Detection in Human Breath: Influence of Solvent on Sensor Performance”

This work received significant recognition, as the poster was awarded a Young Researcher Award during the international summer school #ISSON26.

Within the ALCOVE project, the teams at IMT Nord Europe contribute to the development and improvement of the sensors integrated into the electronic nose. The objective is to enhance their sensitivity, selectivity, and ability to detect compounds of interest in exhaled breath.

The research presented by Théo explores more sustainable approaches to manufacturing polyaniline-based sensors by replacing conventionally used solvents with lower-toxicity alternatives, while also improving sensor performance under conditions that closely resemble human breath.

Beyond presenting his results, the event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with the international community working in nanotechnology, sensors, and advanced materials, around shared scientific challenges.

Congratulations to Théo Forestier for this distinction, and to the entire IMT Nord Europe team for their contribution to the development of technologies that may help improve the early detection of lung cancer in the future.
