Looking Back at ALCOVE’s Participation in GECCO 2026

Last July, Adel Mokadem (University of Lille) represented the ALCOVE project at #GECCO2026 (Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference), one of the leading international conferences in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and optimization.

Participating remotely, Adel presented his research during the workshop “Decomposition Techniques in Evolutionary Optimization”, following the acceptance of his scientific paper.

This contribution focused on explainable multi-objective machine learning methods, a topic that closely aligns with ALCOVE’s ambitions. At the heart of this research lies a key question: how can we develop high-performing algorithms while maintaining the ability to understand and explain their decisions?

Although the work presented was conducted using benchmark datasets from the scientific literature, the approaches developed address several methodological challenges that are highly relevant to the project:
– improving the exploration of complex datasets,
– enhancing the performance of artificial intelligence models,
– strengthening the interpretability of generated results.

GECCO 2026 also provided an opportunity to discover the latest advances in multi-objective optimization, genetic algorithms, and applied artificial intelligence, while engaging with a vibrant international community of researchers.


These exchanges are a valuable source of inspiration for the work carried out within ALCOVE and contribute to advancing reflections on the future exploitation of data generated by the electronic nose.

Beyond the scientific contribution itself, this participation helped increase the international visibility of the project and foster new connections within the artificial intelligence research community.
