ALCOVE reaches a key milestone in its technological phase: launch of the cloning of the electronic nose prototype

·

On March 3, during the ALCOVE Project Steering Committee, the technological partners formalized a major milestone: the launch of the cloning of the first electronic nose prototype. This step paves the way for the manufacturing of the 9 devices required for the clinical studies that will begin from late 2026 in hospitals across the cross-border region.

This key milestone marks a new phase in the technological development of the future lung cancer screening support tool. The French and Belgian teams involved – based in Bruges, Arlon, Mons, Reims and Douai – are working closely together to reproduce a reliable and standardized prototype, integrating all technological building blocks: sensors, exhaled air analysis instruments, artificial intelligence for data interpretation, and safety systems.

At this stage, the cloning concerns the basic components of the electronic nose, those that are not subject to the series of laboratory tests currently underway. The most sensitive elements, meanwhile, will continue to be optimized throughout the testing phases in order to ensure performance and stability in line with the requirements of future clinical studies.
